Linda Blair plays Chris an American student who flies to Berlin to meet her military fiancee. 10 minutes in we get Chris and hubby in a short soft focus lovemaking romp in which Blairs nipples are conveniently disquised through AB Roll edits. Warning! It takes one full hour before we see anymore nudity! O.k. that said, back to business. She has a fight with her man, and on a cool down walk stumbles into the abduction of a female doctor played by Sue Kiel. The russkies abduct Blair since she is the only witness. Once across the border, they easily coax a bogus confession out of her which condemns the doctor to 30 years in prison, and chubby Linda to 3 years. Once inside, we meet the slack lesbian Warden and Sophie (Sylvia Kristel) her Queen Bee that seems to run everything. Sophie likes to abduct women in the middle of the night, tatoo em, and use them in lesbo orgies. Believe me it sounds more exciting than it is. At the one hour mark we get a good bit of nudity that all starts in the shower with a full on Blair topless shot. Even Emanuelle herself is looking very nice physically.
The typical power struggle happens with Blair being raped by Sophie and a Guard. Another timid inmate gets raped by a toilet brush, tatooed, and lesbo orgied. She kills herself, and Blair has had enough, fights back, a very short cat fight breaks out, and everyone gets more years added on. The whole time this is going down we have to suffer with her dumb fiance trying to figure things out, and put together a commando squad to break her out. The big break out happens right during Blair and Krystall's big fight. Krystall does have some good cheesy dialogue at this point, but her demise is pretty lame. The big problem with Red Heat is that it just was't nasty enough. The first evil thing we see the Queen Bee do is destroy another inmates chocolates! The viewer is even suppose to feel this is some great act of cruelty.
The Tangerine Dream score and editing gave the film an early 80's Michael Mann/Miami Vice slickness, but the art direction stuck to those Commie Wendy's commercial grays. The only color came from Sophie's red hair and shirt which made me root for her more than Blair. In an Ilsa sort of way, I just wanted more of Krystal abusing Blair's dumb charachter. This whole mess could of probably redeemed itself if sexy Sue Kiel had just gotten naked.
